London Southend Airport
Starting from the 2nd April 2012 easyJet starts flying from Southend to destinations including Malaga, Ibiza and Mallorca.
With approximately the same connection time to Liverpool Street as from the capital to Stansted it is evident why many travellers will be tempted, not to mention being cheaper and with a connection stop to the Olympic park.
Locally there seems to be a general sense of support for this new and exciting airport, with the proposed creation of 500 jobs.
As yet because of the limited destinations there is no duty free but inevitably you will find Eddie Stobart memorabilia along-side the mandatory Toblerones.
Currently Southend will have 20 to 30 daily flights this year but Stobart hopes to carry up to 2 million passengers annually with further plans to extend the terminal this year.
